Snigdha Sur

ceo, the juggernaut

Snigdha is helping to shine new light on South Asia, and South Asians, through her dedicated media platform The Juggernaut. Frustrated by a lack of original media coverage, she set out to tell ‘smarter stories’ with context and perspectives that were lacking elsewhere. The Juggernaut began life as a free newsletter curated from other sources, before successfully securing funding to evolve into a subscription service.

Pre-startup life, Snigdha studied Economics and South Asian Studies at Yale, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School. While at Yale, she wrote her thesis on Bollywood, and started an annual South Asian Film Festival – with none other than Shah Rukh Khan as one of her invitees. She has also worked as a consultant for McKinsey, and a film producer at Phantom Films in Mumbai, building up media and business experience that would eventually shape her decision to focus Juggernaut reporting around tech, business, politics, macroeconomics and culture.

To date, The Juggernaut has raised $2 million, commissioned 100+ freelance journalists and built a subscriber base that has grown four times over. Snigdha puts this down to a growing interest in representation, and an appetite for diverse perspectives from the South Asian diaspora in the US and elsewhere. Her future plans include branching into podcasts and video, to broaden the range of stories The Juggernaut is able to tell.
