SHAN VINCENT DE PAUL
RAPPER, DIRECTOR
Shan began his music career in Toronto, where his parents arrived after escaping unrest in Sri Lanka. His early feelings of isolation sparked a lasting interest in hip-hop, leading him to experiment with his own forms of rhythm, flow and verse to bridge the gap with his family’s roots.
To date, Shan has released 5 albums. His latest, Made In Jaffna, is considered his most personal yet for its exploration of Tamil identity, culture and history. The track One Hundred Thousand Flowers has been getting particular attention for its poignant reflection on the Tamil casualties of the Sri Lankan civil war. Shan also has his own YouTube channel – home to his 'Mrithangam Raps’ series, as well as his most recent self-directed music videos. Back in Toronto Shan is a member of local artist collective sideways, and he is an early signing to Maajja: an exclusively South Asian record label founded by A.R. Rahman.
Most recently, Shan has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone India – and he is set to release his first NFT collection as part of Voice’s NFT Residency.
