Utharaa and Palash are designers, co-founders and a cross-cultural couple hailing from the South and North of India respectively. In 2018, they hit on the idea of designing collectible furniture and homewares around a central theme of softness. And with that, soft-geometry was born.

Straddling Kochi in India and the Bay Area in the US, the soft-geometry studio brings together traditional and contemporary approaches to seeing and making objects. Utharaa and Palash’s exploration of softness also takes a variety of forms: ranging from using soft-touch materials like velvet, felt, wool and fur, to experimenting with visual associations through colour, lighting and form.

They are also unafraid to draw on subtler inspirations, such as faint perfume, wet earth, or whispers and rustles, which nod to softness in more abstract ways. They describe their creative approach as being ‘an antithesis to the big, bold, fast and perfect’, which is directly reflected in their slow, considered and intimate design approach.
