MISHA JAPANWALA
ARTIST
Misha creates art that celebrates and reclaims women’s bodies in the mainstream. She is best known for her custom-made body casts, as seen on Joy Crookes, Cardi B, Gigi Hadid and others, which radically straddle the realms of art, sculpture and fashion.
Subverting the male gaze is a long-standing focus of Misha’s work. Her first collection Azaadi (‘Freedom’ in Urdu) paid homage to domestic violence survivors in Pakistan, and featured sculpted plaster casts of her own body as a metaphor for armour and protection.
Misha’s pieces have featured in V Magazine, and a six-page feature for Vogue Spain – her first, and most prominent fashion credit to date. She is also taking custom jewellery and illustration commissions, so she can continue releasing collections that challenge the status quo.
