KANGAN ARORA

TEXTILE DESIGNER

Kangan’s love of colour and cloth began in childhood: a natural inheritance from her family’s sari embroidery business in Punjab. After moving to Gujarat to study their famed textile crafts and dyeing processes, she moved to London to deepen her craft at Central Saint Martins (CSM).

Since then Kangan’s work has been featured at the V&A, Southbank Centre, and Milan’s Triennale Design Museum. Her other collaborations include collections for TATE, Heal’s, Urban Outfitters, and Floor_Story. She also designed IKEA’s playful 12-colour Sigrunn fabric, which people could buy by the metre. Aside from cushions, sofa covers and curtains, the popular print has even been turned into a wedding dress.

Aside from planning new studio projects, Kangan is a first-year lecturer at CSM – bringing her experience full circle. She specialises in visual language, screen-printing and bold applications of colour.
