DEBIKA RAY
JOURNALIST, EDITOR
Debika founded Clove Magazine as way of shifting the lens on journalism from and about South Asia.It features merit-worthy stories from as far afield as Nepal and Bhutan, as well as the global diaspora. It also consciously foregrounds connections across the region, rather than divisions.
Clove covers everything from food, photography and music to political, cultural and culinary movements: reflecting Debika’s own breadth of editorial experience. Its launch issue looked at the evolution of the sari, the politics of tea, and the Nepal Picture Library project, which visually documents Nepali history through more than 52,000 photos.
Elsewhere, Debika can be found writing, editing and commissioning articles for publications including Icon, Harvard Design Review, Elle Decoration, Kinfolk and more. She is also the contributing editor for Crafts magazine, dedicated to contemporary craftspeople.
