VASU SOJITRA
professional athlete & disability access strategist
Mr Sojitra not only comes from extreme poverty he’s not only broken the glass ceiling but shown his inspirational determination by skiing Denali in Alaska, Wyoming’s Grand Teton peak, the first disabled ski descent of the state’s Mt. Moran in 2021 making us proud to include him as one of most influential athletes we have today. Vasu lost his right leg to a blood infection when he was nine months old. Rather than letting his disability limit him, Vasu has always treated his amputation as an opportunity to live life with strength and resilience. Raised in India and Connecticut, Vasu’s family, especially his brother supported him.
Vasu launched The Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E Initiative and is also the co-founder of the Inclusive Outdoors Project. These projects and campaigns are focussed on creating the outdoors more inclusive and accessible to everyone. Vasu lives in Bozeman, Montana where he leads outdoor activities for people of marginalized backgrounds. He works as adaptive sports director for Eagle Mount Bozeman, a nonprofit that provides therapeutic recreational opportunities for people with disabilities and young people with cancer. Vasu is also one of the founding coordinators for Earthtone Outside Montana, an organization advocating for the visibility of people of colour within Montana.
