Alia’s visual style is rich, vibrant and firmly rooted in community. Colourful sets and lavish accessories are a defining feature of her sets, with identity and representation being common themes.

Her studio projects often draw on Indian aesthetics, such as her ongoing Mothers and Daughters series which takes its cue from Mughal miniature portraiture. Much of Alia’s work also centres on making queer South Asians more visible: her models are often drawn from the LGBTQ+ community, with their portraits showcasing rarely-seen moments of love, friendship and solidarity. Alia has been the chosen photographer for many online publications including British Vogue, VICE, Bustle, gal-dem and Refinery 29.

She has also collaborated with zines such as Burnt Roti, Kajal and Crybaby, and regularly shoots with other South Asian creatives.
