Mahaneela’s aesthetic is defined by joy and diaspora. As a photographer, DJ, director and producer, she spotlights Black and brown people in moments of happiness: intentionally countering their lack of popular representation with a bright, authentic perspective. Mahaneela’s collaborators include FKA Twigs, Steve McQueen and Adwoa Aboah and she sees herself continuing to work with Black and South Asian artists to build mainstream respect for their talent, craft and cultures.
